Last Friday evening we had the good fortune to be invited to the opening night of a new Indian dining club in Godalming, with fabulous entertainment accompanying a most delicious five-course Indian banquet.

We found the Art of Curry Dining Rooms by entering a spacious first-floor area ideally suited to a dining and dancing. We soon sat down to a a delicious starter of homemade popadoms and sauces, followed by an extremely delicious tandoori chicken second starter! Next we tucked into some truly delicious Indian curry dishes, rice, chapati and naan, followed by a scrummy mango desert and Indian sweets to finish off. Needless to say we did not go home hungry! The food was flavoursome, delicate and plentiful; truly homeade and several tiers above your average Indian takeaway.

As with many supper clubs, the venue is not licensed, so we brought our own wine and beer, although soft drinks and water were on offer throughout the evening. Other than the sensationally delicious Indian dishes, what really set the evening apart was the Bollywood entertainment. We were treated to two separate shows between courses, consisting of dancing and dohl (drummers). The beats really set the dancing off and was really impressive and enjoyable.

We loved having a few hours of much needed time out from family life and the chance to get to know a few fellow diners on our table, but if you'd rather take the whole family, founder Sameena Thompson has many ideas in the pipeline, including supper club evenings for families, Bollywood food and dance parties, children's cookery courses and much more. Watch this space!
