We love the smell (and taste!) of a shandy in the summer! We're not the only ones as our family-friendly pubs with gardens section becomes one of our most popular at this time of year.

There's a great selection of pubs to choose from in Surrey. Our section only includes the ones we know are good for families, so please let us know of any more we might have missed. Many of our pub listings have been reviewed by other families to give you an idea of what to expect, so here's a few for you to read...

The Dog and Pheasant, Brook (pictured), is described as child friendly with high chairs, kids' menu and baby changing. Its new, improved garden is now fully open and ready for the summer! Complete with new children's play equipment, more seating and a French boules court, it's the place to be seen over the summer months. Adele says: “The food here is really quite something and the puddings are to die for. There was a wide selection to choose from the starter and main courses and children's menus. The quantity and quality was good, as was the service from the staff, and this was reflected in the number of families eating there. We look forward to our next visit!"

The Horse and Groom in Guildford gets lovely reviews from two families. Adele writes: “It really is family friendly and the children love going.  I can always find something to eat - from simple fish n chips to Moroccan themed sharing platters.” This reviewer added that she likes the family friendly atmosphere and her kids love the food.

The Onslow Arms has baby changing facilities and a children’s menu. It is a favourite with BisbeeB, who says: “The food here never fails us, it is simply delicious. The pub is very welcoming to children and there is enough space in the various nooks and crannies, including an outside area, so that you can tuck yourselves away and hopefully avoid irritating other diners.”

Ruth adds: “Beautiful decor and lovely relaxed atmosphere. Lots of families. Yummy children's menu. Lovely walled garden/outside seating, which the children loved exploring.  I happened to notice their baby changing room - it has to be the nicest public changing room I have ever seen in my life!!”

The Black Swan, in Ockham, is reviewed by Penny, who says: “There is an outside eating area with a barbecue, ideal space for the family. They serve burgers etc, so the children were happy. We visited on a sunny bank holiday and our kids enjoyed the bouncy castle.
It's pet friendly too - we took our dog!”

The Bluebell, in Dockenfield, is described as having a children’s menu and good outdoor play area. Penny says: “This pub is in a lovely setting and the food there was delicious. It's ideal for a Sunday lunch and the menu seems to cater for everyone. There's enough space for the children to be able to go off and play. The kids had a selection off the children's menu and all plates were cleaned by them - a great sign of success!”

The Percy Arms, Chilworth, is well known for its steaks, lovely play area and great kids’ menu. Joanne McGowan writes: “We really like the Percy Arms. It has a great kids' menu and carvery on a Sunday. Lovely garden with kids' playground too and convenient for a walk in the Gunpowder woods and St Martha's.”

The Three Horseshoes Pub, Thursley, gets good reviews although both readers consider it more of a pricey treat. BiseeB says: “The food here is really great, but the prices match that, so it can be expensive for the whole family to eat here. We tend to go with the grandparents if they are treating us! The garden is really big and the play fort is a real hit. It can be really nice to explore this area and a walk at the Devil's Punch Bowl afterwards is always lovely.”

The Weyside, Guildford, has a riverside setting with large outside terrace, board games and toys for children and food for duck feeding. Adele says: “We took the whole family here, including the dog! The set-up is great for families, with board games and things to play with. Also for dogs as they have dog beds, biscuits and toys! The food was decent and the service very friendly.”

We are always looking for new pubs to add to this section and also new reviews, so please do contact us to list a pub or register then log in and go to the listing to review and share your experiences. Thanks!
