Pumpkin Picking at Crockford Bridge Farm in Weybridge
Pumpkin Picking at Crockford Bridge Farm in Weybridge

We have seen a steady increase in events and activities happening for families in Surrey in the past few weeks. Although not as many as we often have, here are some great ideas from our what's on calendar to help you get out and about for some family fun this week.
All weekend & week ...

Squire's garden centres are asking children under 16 to paint a pebble or stone to look like a vegetable. They can pick up a free pebble from Squire’s Information Desk, or use one of their own, then paint it at home to look like their favourite (or not so favourite!) vegetable. They could even bring it to life by adding a little face too!

To ensure your pebble looks its best Squire’s suggest varnishing it, as the painted pebbles will be displayed outside.

Painted pebbles should be handed in at the Information Desk at Squire’s Garden Centres (excludes Squire's Chertsey) between 1st October and 8th November, then children will be rewarded with a free pack of vegetable seeds! Soon your child could be growing tomatoes, courgettes, cabbages or even Brussels sprouts (seeds subject to availability). It’s a great introduction to vegetable gardening, and may even get some fussy eaters to eat their greens!

The weekend starts here ...

Pumpkin Picking at Crockford Bridge Farm in Weybridge is in full swing this weekend. Booking is required so that a safe and controlled environment can be maintained.

Fright Nights Halloween Fearstival at Thorpe Park is definitely one for the older kids (recommended age 13+). There are five new live-action experiences to enjoy, if you dare! Also running on Friday and over next weekend.

There's a FREE parenting talk from CHAMPS Academy Surrey for parents on Saturday, dealing with helping children to deal with anxieties in uncertain times. We think that this sort of online talk can prove a godsend for many parents given the events of this year. There is also another session on Thursday in case you miss this one.

Guildford Book Festival finishes this weekends but it's still worth having a look for tickets for this weekend. This year events are either taking place at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre or online via Zoom.

World Space Week finishes this weekend with activities taking place online.

The Make Space at Watts Gallery allows you and your family to get creative. Every week, discover simple art tutorials specially developed by Watts's Make Space artists. Guided by video tutorials and free printable activity sheets, experiment with different techniques and discover the wonderful creations that can be made from limited resources. A new activity is released online every Sunday.

The rest of the week

Brick or Treat at Legoland Windsor begins on Thursday. Calling all little monsters and their monster families! LEGOLAND Windsor Resort will be transformed into a pumpkin-filled wonderland for what is sure to be the most frightfully fun event of the year perfect for the young, and the young at heart!

A weekend looks dry but we may see a bit of rain next week. Whatever you do, have a lovely week.
