Swimming holiday courses

We tried a holiday course at Spectrum this Summer and it was a real success. My son progressed with his swimming and was a lot more water confident by the end.
It was a great activity to start the day with and once he was finished we liked to relax with a hot chocolate in the café afterwards.
Swimming Lessons

My son has swimming lessons at the Spectrum. The teachers on the whole are very attentive to all children. There are a number that are absolutely brilliant and are exceptional teachers!
My youngest son has tried the lessons but at only 3 got scared that I was not with him. I have no doubt that he will eventually get there and love it as much as his brother.
I myself have also had some private and group adult lessons with the spectrum again brilliant, fun and you learn a lot and gain confidence! Something for all the family!
Holiday Ice Skating Lessons

For the second half term in a row my children (5&7) have been on the Learn to Skate course. Half an hour each morning. Good value for money. The lessons were excellent and I would defintiely recommend them. The teachers were lovely, patient, talented and had a great sense of fun too. My children's skating came on treat and we might just venture onto the rink as a result! But goodness the spectrum was busy! Great for them but the parking was a massive problem. By 10.30 everyday ALL the spaces were gone and people were parking in every other inch of space. So be warned, in holiday periods, get there v early or you risk missing your lessons!
Fab ice skating lessons

My daughter has been doing ice skating lessons at the Spectrum for about six weeks and they are brilliant. The lessons are only half an hour but she has already learnt the proper technique for going forwards and backwards, on one leg, turning, stopping and other stuff. Her coach Andy makes the lessons really fun and really engages with the kids which really helps them to learn. Fantastic!
Review of swimming lessons

Both my children have their swimming lessons at the Spectrum. My 5 year old has 1:! lessons and my 3 year old group lessons. Both have come on amazingly with the tuition here. The 1:1 are pricey and there can be a waiting list but as they are solely focussed on your child you do get your money's worth. If you have 1:1 lessons the child is also entitled to free use of the leisure pool (conditions apply) which is great for an after lesson frolic! The group class is small enough that my daughter gets adequate attention (this can be a big problem in group classes I find). The shallow waters of the teaching pool have been brilliant for my daughter's confidence in the water, knowing she can stand up if she needs too, has increased her bravery and willingness to have a go.
The swimming facilities at the Spectrum are excellent - leisure pool, teaching pool, 25m pool, diving pool, a wide array of clubs and classes available, BUT it is severely let down by the cleanliness of the changing rooms - one word GRIM. If I was rating cleanliness it would be a big fat ZERO.
