Chicks, chocolate and Easter holiday fun

Spring lambs are being born, Easter eggs are being hidden all over the place and judges are lining up to see your Easter bonnets. All the preparations are in place for the Easter holidays; all you have to do is enjoy the fun….

We are looking forward to spending a couple of weeks in the great outdoors after the long winter months, so let’s hope the rain holds off long enough for all those Easter trails and other things to do in Surrey.

There are also plenty of arts and crafts and other indoor activities being planned at Surrey’s favourite attractions if the weather is not so kind, so there should be enough to keep your little chicks entertained.

Check the what’s on section daily to see all the activities on offer, browse our days out section for some inspiration, or take a glance at our top picks in this feature (but please excuse all the Easter puns, we just couldn’t help ourselves…)

Outdoors

We’re going to be scrambling to get to Denbies Wine Estate for chocolatey Easter treat making and an Easter egg trail on April 2. There are different events taking place every day at Denbies, including Easter bonnet parades and farmyard fun.

A fun family Easter trail will be on offer at RHS Garden Wisley during the Easter weekend. There will also be plenty of activities taking place every day during the holidays. Check each day for details.

The Great Easter Egg and Spoon Challenge at Painshill Park sounds like cracking fun. Children have to try balancing an egg on a spoon whilst navigating various obstacles.

The Easter fun at Claremont Landscape Gardens includes an Easter egg trail, face-painting, storytelling, and an Easter bonnet parade.

The fun at Kew Gardens includes chocolate making and craft workshops, face painting and an Easter egg hunt.

Indoors

We’re quite egg-cited about all the activities taking place in Surrey’s libraries from April 2 to 7, as part of the Children’s Book Festival. Favourite characters such as Maisy and Kipper will be making appearances, so check the website for times and dates of individual events.

It can be hard for mums with pre-schoolers during the holidays, as all the usual playgroups shut down for the week. Busy Lizzy has plenty for the under fives to eggs-perience, including arts and crafts sessions, Pipsqueak music, drama and dance classes, ballet, tap dancing, baby sing and sign as well as pilates and yoga classes all suitable for mums with babies. There will also be lots of Easter fun on offer.

There will be some egg-cellent Easter and spring themed arts and crafts activities on offer for children of all ages at Clandon Park every day.

There is no pecking order at The Rural Life Centre, everyone is welcome to join the hunt for the chicks on April 8 and 9. There will also be a decorated egg competition on the Sunday and an Easter bonnet competition on the Monday.

It should be a smashing morning at the Act One Parties Easter arts and crafts event on April 3. Activities will include games, storytelling, drama and dancing, with all proceeds going to charity.

There are plenty of free activities taking place for children in Waterstones in Guildford's High Street throughout the two weeks, including an Easter Egg Hunt, on April 6 and 7 and an Easter Bonnet making activity on April 3. It is also Peter Rabbit day in the store on April 14.

Finally...

Don’t forget to check our new theatres section if you fancy taking in a fun show with the children over the holidays. And it may not be too late to book your child on an Easter Camp so have a look at our holiday clubs and classes section.

We’d love you to share your holiday experiences with us and other mums through the chit-chat section or by reviewing a local attraction.

Have a great Easter break and enjoy the chocolate, you deserve it!
