There is so much in the news these days about children not getting enough fun and adventure outdoors.
The Surrey Mummy team are on a mission to get out and about more this summer, exploring nature and having some good old fashioned fun such as bug hunting and den building.
We will pop back to this post every now and then to tell you what we have been up to, and hopefully give you some ideas and inspiration.
Please join in and add your own adventure stories and outdoor fun ideas to this thread.
I will start by telling a story of a recent night walk we did. We walked from Jacobs Well to Stoughton in the dark (cutting through the green at Bellfields) and you would be amazed at how much wildlife we saw and heard.
The children were delighted at how close they got to a wild rabbit (even though they have pet rabbits!) and they loved looking at the snails in the moonlight.

We've had some nice replies on Facebook & Twitter.

Soundsteps Music School says "Surrey has some super bluebell walks, kids love that "

Haslemere Museum told us about their lovely gardens for a picnic and grounds for a short walk with tree and garden trails. They also have a brilliant observational beehive where children can lift off the covers and see what's happening inside (bees safely behind glass so you won't get stung!).

For my part, my family really like all the local National Trust properties and RHS Wisley. They all usually have nature trails and activities laid on to help children get back to nature, and their play areas are usually of a more rustic nature inspired by the great outdoors, eg the den building at Wisley's play area and Hatchlands new willow play area. We'll also be rock pooling in Wales for some good old fashioned fun in the summer holidays, not sure how many rock pools there are in Surrey though!

We're slowly working our way through the National Trust's 50 things to do before you're 11 3/4! www.50things.org.uk/

We're also hoping to do the new natural play trail at Box Hill designed by the National Trust to help children to discover the great outdoors, should help us tick a few things off the 50things list!

We like camping in the back garden! We pitch the tent, toast marshmallows, sleep outside & cook sausages on the campfire for breakfast. The kids think its brilliant fun but it doesn't require the full on organisational assault of a proper camping trip, we're working up to that!

And we simply love a good walk across the beautiful Surrey countryside.
